At WEST, we understand the barriers internationally-trained women face in the Canadian workforce. In an effort to assist these women in overcoming the obstacles that prevent them from obtaining suitable employment, WEST offers the Management Training Program (MTP).

Through partnership with the University of Windsor – Odette School of Business and Certified Management Accountants of Ontario (CMA), this dynamic program is delivered in a manner that helps candidates conserve time and financial resources.

MTP is specifically designed for women who have professional experience in strategic financial management and have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to provide leadership, innovation and an integrating perspective to organizational decision making in the Canadian workplace.

MTP provides the foundation required for those pursuing careers as cost accountants or careers in business or government, which require an understanding of accounting and management methodologies.

Students’ competence is emphasized on a wide spectrum of business disciplines and provides the foundation knowledge essential for advanced position in the Canadian business world.

Many professions in Canada are regulated. This means that individuals employed in these professions have to meet certain licensing requirements and, typically, be members of a regulatory body or association in order to legally do their job.

Regulated professions require several years of post-secondary education, several years of supervised practical experience, and written and/or verbal communication testing to ensure that core skills for the profession are met. Accounting is a regulated profession in Canada.

The MTP program at WEST allows candidates to meet the criteria required to satisfy the CMA regulated requirements for writing the CMA National Exam.

Upon completion of the MTP Program, candidates must complete the CMA Strategic leadership Program to qualify for licensing in Ontario.

To provide candidates with the necessary tools to obtain CMA Accreditation, the MTP Program has three stages: 

Term One: In the initial phase of the program, candidates will receive 7 weeks of Language Training, which includes TOEFL preparation and Business Terminology instruction. 

Term Two: In conjunction with the University of Windsor, candidates complete academic prerequisites for the CMA Accelerated program. University of Windsor professors equip participants for success through a 34-week certificate program. 

Term Three: Through partnership with CMA, candidates complete a 30-week Accelerated CMA program, which is combined with CMA Technical Training. Upon completion of these courses, candidates are equipped to write the CMA Entrance Exam. Passing this exam allows entry to the CMA Strategic Leadership Program (SLP).

The MTP class schedule is designed to accommodate working candidates and even        those with school-aged children.

Class Schedule:

• Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6pm to 9pm
• Saturday from 9am to 4pm
• Saturday instruction includes a 30 minute lunch break

All instruction is provided by qualified instructors, on-site at WEST of Windsor Inc.

Funded by the Ontario Provincial Government as well as Citizenship and Immigration Canada, services associated with the MTP program are provided at no cost.

Candidates are responsible for costs associated with the Strategic Leadership Program (SLP), which is obtained directly through CMA, upon completion of the MTP Program.

Because many women also have the responsibility of childcare, WEST provides on-site child minding at no charge to MTP candidates.

Care is provided by licensed E.C.E. Staff, in a stimulating environment, for children aged 18 months to 12 years. Snacks are provided with close attention to dietary restrictions and allergies.

For many, obtaining professional experience in Canada can be difficult due to lack of Canadian work experience or social and economic factors.

WEST is committed to helping MTP candidates gain experience by partnering with local businesses to provide volunteer internships.

Our Career Bridge/Volunteer Placement Specialist teams with local employers to provide candidates with exposure to the Canadian accounting environment, while strengthening their resume.

The Career Bridge/Volunteer Placement staff at WEST partner with candidates to refine their job search skills.

Together, candidates and WEST staff work to create dynamic and attention-getting resumes and cover letters. Interview skills are honed through workshops and role-play techniques.

Job opportunities in the community are always made available to all candidates who have progressed to the CMA instruction stage.
